Bereavement Clearance

An image of a row of terraced houses

When a relative dies, with no other occupants left in the home, it often falls to the executors to clear the house. This can be such a difficult thing to do, particularly whilst dealing with the grief of losing a loved one. The Celebrant Services offer a unique alternative to traditional house clearance.

If I have carried out the funeral service for your loved one, I will already have an insight into their character, and what was important to them and the family. I can use this knowledge whilst clearing the house, to create a beautiful memory box of small treasured possessions the family can keep.

Another beautiful idea is that of a Memory bear, where a well-loved item of clothing is used to create a bear. This can be from an individual item, or a number of different items. In this way, maybe a few could be made and distributed to grandchildren.

Even if I did not perform the service, I can arrange to meet the family before visiting the house, to gain an insight into the deceased. Either way, I will still clear the house in a sensitive, compassionate way.

The Process.

  1. Survey the house to gain an understanding of what needs to be removed and provide a quote
  2. Any personal items will be looked after to create the memory box (if required).
  3. If the family have requested to keep specific items, these will be identified and ready for collection by the family.
  4. Anything that can be usefully donated to local charities will be next.
  5. Items with a useful resale value will be discussed and may reduce the overall cost of the clearance.
  6. Any items that can not be reasonably donated or sold, will be appropriately disposed of, in line with our waste carrier licence
  7. If required, the house will then be thoroughly cleaned- ready for marketing.
